Dog Food Recalls – What’s Safe to Feed Fido?

With the recent dog food recalls , dog owners are throw ing their hands in the air and wondering what exactly they can feed their dogs that is actually safe and won't be recalled the day after they have purchased it.

Since the last round of dog food recalls , we have learnt that a pet food manufacturer used wheat gluten in their dog food, which caused most of the problems the first time.

After this dog food recall people started reading the labels of the food in the hope to find a safer product to feed their dogs. 

Unfortunately, this proved  to be a waste of time, since another manufacturer reportedly used a rice concentrate in one company's pet food , but didn't include the ingredient on the food packaging.

Dog owners are now frustrated from all of these dog food  recalls and a new fear has set in with dog owners worrying what pet  food is actually safe?

Because of this fear, many dog owners are now feeding their pets homemade human food. This may intially appear to be an easy solution to the problem, but it's not really the best option.

Human food can make your dog or any other pet sick because their digestive systems are not built for this type of diet. So introducing human food can cause just as many problems as the recalled dog  food  if you're not careful.

Not all human food is bad though. If you decide to make your own food for your dog then make sure you're using healthy organic food.

You should not include anything that contains artificial ingredients or any food that has been chemically sprayed. If you want to make your own dog food, organic foods   are the best way to go.

If making your own pet  food doesn't appeal to you, then you should look for dog foods that have the least amount of grains in them.

Although there really isn't any evidence that grains will cause your dog problems, it seems to make sense, since grains have been used as fillers for the pet food in the last few years.

Some experts offer some tips of what to look for on the ingredients label of your dog food. They suggest that the first three ingredients of the label should be some kind of protein - like  beef, chicken, fish or turkey.

It's very important that the dog food contains a large amount of protein. These experts also state that you should never buy any pet food  product that doesn't have the company name, phone number or web address clearly listed on the package.

You should have a way to contact someone if something should happen to your dog after consuming their dog food.

You should also avoid buying the generic labeled or store brand labeled pet food  products, since these are manufactured from bulk suppliers, this increases the chances of this food being involved in more dog food recalls .

When looking for dog food you should look for a good brand name product to feed to your dog.

Dog food can be safe, but you need to be an advocate for your dog and make sure they are only eating healthy foods. Read the labels and make sure the food is of high quality and you can avoid the problems caused by dog  food  recalls .
